What is a vehicle identity and safety inspection report (blue slip)?

This report can only be issued by an authorized unregistered inspection station, such as Camex Automotive. It proves that a vehicle has passed the required roadworthy, design, and identity standards for NSW registration.

You’ll require a blue slip in the following circumstances:

    • Interstate registration - if your vehicle is registered in a state other than NSW
    • If your vehicle has been imported from another country
    • If registration has expired in the past three months
    • Blue slips take up to an hour and cost $64 and may incur further charges for design checks and removal of parts to inspect engine numbers.
    • Adjustment of record if engine has been changed.
    • Proof of ownership is compulsory.

What is a vehicle safety check (pink slip)?

A vehicle safety check can also only be issued by an authorized inspection station , and it concludes that your vehicle has passed the required roadworthy standards for NSW registration.

You’ll need this inspection under the following circumstances:

    • If your vehicle is more than five years old
    • If your registration renewal notice tells you an inspection is required
    • If your vehicle has run out of registration (but less than 3 months)
    • When selling your car
    • You only need 1 inspection a year, even if you elect to pay 6 monthly.
